Conway snatches Snetterton pole

Championship leader Mike Conway (Double R Racing) has taken pole position for the first British Formula Three race at Snetterton

The result of today's first session comes as no surprise, as Conway has been virtually unbeatable in several of the group tests at the Norfolk session since New Year. But the margin of pole was a very slim one.

The British driver lines up just ahead of Carlin Motorsport's Christian Bakkerud, who was less than a tenth of a second behind in what turned out to be a clean session run under blue skies.

Hitech Racing's rookie driver James Jakes continued to show rapid improvement and will start a close third, the best grid slot of his brief F3 career.

Maro Engel (Carlin Motorsport), Yelmer Buurman (Fortec Motorsport) and James Walker (Hitech Racing) take up the next three positions, with Oliver Jarvis and Bruno Senna completing the top eight.

Jarvis and Senna (who lies a close second to Conway in the championship) are the only race-winners this year aside from Conway, and it was unusual for both to encounter such struggles.

Both will look to improve in this afternoon's session, which will determine the grid for the second race tomorrow.
