British F3 teams eye BTCC bill

British Formula Three teams are looking at the possibility of racing on the British Touring Car Championship bill in 2009, this week's Autosport reports

The F3 championship's current deal with series promoter SRO expires at the end of 2008, and the teams believe that joining the BTCC package has a lot of positives.

Formula Three Association chairman Alan Docking told Autosport: "I talk to (BTCC boss) Alan Gow every year and make enquiries. It's my job to look at the options, we need to look after our business and our championship.

"The BTCC events are well organised, highly successful and their promotion is great. We want to see bigger crowds and better TV for F3, and it may satisfy what we're looking for."

While Gow will not rule out the possibility of F3 joining the BTCC bill in the future, SRO boss Stephane Ratel added that he would have no problem with losing the championship.

"I'm very pleased to have taken the series from 17 to 30 cars," Ratel told Autosport. "I have brought European and city tracks to the calendar, these are things the teams requested.

"But if they have different wishes for the future then I respect their wishes. And if they want to stay, they are always welcome."

British F3 last raced on the same bill as the BTCC at Donington in September 2003.
