Brands Race 2: Kerr does it again
For the second time this weekend Robbie Kerr cruised to an easy win in the British F3 series at Brands Hatch
There may have been a dearth of action in the battle for the lead, but there was all manner of incident taking place further down the order. This kicked off at the first turn of the opening lap when Fabio Carbone and Michael Keohane made contact.
Keohane sustained damage to his front wing, while Carbone picked up a puncture. The wounded pair held on to second and third positions however, and as they limped on Kerr made hay.
Carbone was the more seriously affected of the two and his lack of pace reverberated through the pack. Going into Graham Hill Clivio Piccione braked suddenly to avoid hitting the Brazilian and was whacked from behind by Adam Carroll and Piccione was out.
At Surtees - the next corner - Stephen Colbert completely misjudged Carbone's speed and vaulted over the back of his car, effectively eliminating two more cars, while Gavin Smith spun into the barrier in avoidance, making it an expensive corner for Meritus.
The Safety Car came out at the end of lap two while the trackside workers cleared the debris, and when it pulled off again Kerr quickly picked up where he left off. Keohane did an admirable job to keep the chasing pack behind him in his ailing car, and it took James Courtney until lap 11 to make his way into second.
Bruce Jouanny attempted to follow Courtney's lead, but Keohane was in no mood for moving over and both cars ended up off the road after a botched move at Clearways. Jouanny recovered to keep third, while Keohane rejoined back in 18th.
The drama at the head of the field promoted Alan van der Merwe to fourth and Heikki Kovalainen, who started 13th to fifth.
Adam Carroll was sixth and won the Scholarship class.
