Brands Hatch: Kerr wins race 1

Robbie Kerr was never headed as he took the honours in race one at Brands Hatch. From pole position the Englishman made a great start and once in the lead the Alan Docking Racing driver was in a class of his own

Carlin's Michael Keohane kept Kerr in sight, but was never close enough to attempt a pass, or even put the leading Dallara under enough pressure to force an error. However, he was safe in second place, and with championship leader James Courtney having a torrid time, it was prudent for Keohane to settle for the runner-up spot and a healthy haul of points.

Courtney has not been his usual self this weekend, and a below par sixth on the grid gave him a tough task in the race. This became even tougher when Bruce Jouanny pulled an inspired move out of the bag around the outside at Druids to demote the Australian to seventh. It was a rare pass for position in a ultimately processional race.

In the separately run Scholarship race, Rob Dahlgren and Clivio Piccione staged a race-long duel for the lead, which Dahlgren eventually won. With Gavin Smith holding up the rest of the field in third, the leading pair were in a race of their own.

Eventually Smith succumbed to the intense pressure placed on him by the chasing pack, and both Billy Asaro and Adam Carroll slipped by the Englishman in the closing stages.
