Asmer blames lack of top speed

Marko Asmer believes that a lack of straightline speed prevented him from competing for victory in Sunday's Macau Grand Prix

The British F3 champion could only manage a fourth-place finish in the main race, having battled with eventual winner Oliver Jarvis in Saturday's qualification race.

"I'm disappointed," Asmer told autosport.com. "It took a few laps more for the tyres to come in but that was not really the problem.

"It was just straightline speed. At the start I got alongside Oliver but then he just had more speed so he could pull clear."

"Pace wise we were quite good I think, I had the fastest lap, so we were quickest but not on the straights."

The Estonian was baffled by the problem, as he believes he was running the same levels of wing as his rivals, and he was even out-dragged by fellow Mercedes runner Kodai Tsukakoshi.

"I don't know what it is," he added. "When I went behind someone in the tow I stayed flat but he would still pull away.

"Tsukakoshi is also Mercedes-Benz and he was much quicker. The downforce levels we were running were the same, so it must have been something else."
