Bianchi takes ninth season win

Jules Bianchi took his ninth Formula 3 Euro Series win of the season with another dominant performance at Hockenheim on Saturday

The ART driver cruised away from the field after making a solid start, and was never threatened from his pursuers.

The Frenchman's team-mate Valterri Bottas took a comfortable second behind him, while Jean Karl Vernay took third after a tough scrap with Roberto Merhi.

The Spaniard held the position in the early stages, and soon switched his focus to defending from the Signature driver rather than trying to keep up with the ART cars ahead.

Vernay appeared to be running out of ideas, but Merhi handed him the place when he ran very wide at the Mercedes Arena on lap 13, and he had nothing in response once he had lost the position.

Alexander Sims ran fifth for the majority of the race after making a good start, but he was gradually hunted down by Mika Maki, who snatched the place from him on the final lap.

Marco Wittmann shadowed that battle for most of the race to take seventh, while eighth place and pole position for Sunday's season finale went to Henkie Waldschmidt.

The position had been held by series newcomer Victor Garcia after he had been shuffled back from fourth on the grid in the opening laps, but he eventually lost out to Waldschmidt, meaning he will start ninth for race two.
