Timo Glock scored a lights-to-flag victory in the final round of the GP2 Series at Valencia on Sunday, to put the icing on his championship cake.
Glock (iSport) got ahead of poleman Javier Villa (Racing Engineering) at the start and was never challenged throughout the 30-lap race.
The big mover at the start was Marcos Martinez (Racing Engineering), who rocketed from fifth to third as fellow Spaniards Andy Soucek (DPR) and Borja Garcia (Durango) had their own private skirmish and he nipped past them both.
Martinez would hold third until lap three, when he went off at the final corner. That promoted Soucek back to third and Garcia to fourth.
Giorgio Pantano held off yesterday's winner, and Campos team-mate, Vitaly Petrov, until the latter headed into the gravel for a brief excursion, promoting the battling Luca Filippi (Super Nova) and Kazuki Nakajima (DAMS).
Glock held a 1-second advantage until getting the hammer down mid-race, eventually pulling away to a 5.4-second victory, although it had been over 7 seconds at one point. It was a fitting way to seal his title.
Soucek just held off a charging Garcia in the closing stages for another podium finish for DPR, while Pantano's fifth place meant Campos sealed third place in the teams' championship over Super Nova, whose top driver Filippi scored a point in sixth.
The final point for fastest lap went to Glock, to emphasise his dominance.
Glock's title rival Lucas di Grassi made up a lot of ground in the early stages of the race, but his progress was stifled by Andreas Zuber in the second iSport car, and the Brazilian eventually had to settle for 13th place.
