Wurz linked to BAR seat beside Button

Speculation is raging over who would fill the second seat at BAR-Honda in 2004 should former world champion Jacques Villeneuve fail to keep his place with the Brackley-based team

Although Villeneuve said at the weekend that he was "heavily into discussions right now" with BAR, rumours are rife that he will be replaced. McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz is the latest name to be connected with the drive.

"Alex worked for me at Benetton, I have a great respect for him," said BAR boss David Richards. "I think he is very intelligent mature driver and would be a great compliment to the team. That said, I have made it very clear that we are not rushing into any decisions at this moment.

"It will happen over the next couple of months, so let's wait and see how it will unfold. I think McLaren are hoping to announce their plans at Hungary. I am in discussions with four or five different drivers and I have a very open mind to it at the moment."

BAR test driver Takuma Sato is also high on the list, but there is understood to be some reluctance within the team to promote him to the race team yet.
