FIA sets Schumacher appeal date

The BMW WilliamsF1 Team's appeal against Ralf Schumacher's 10-grid slot penalty, dished out after the German's involvement in a first corner crash in Hockenheim last weekend, will be heard four days before the Hungarian Grand Prix when the punishment is set to be enforced

The MSA, as the British team's registered ASN, will make a presentation to the FIA's International Court of Appeal in Paris on August 19. The decision of the appeal will be announced the following afternoon.

Ralf Schumacher is unrepentant and believes that he is not to blame for the first corner shunt that eliminated him, Kimi Raikkonen and Rubens Barrichello from the German Grand Prix.

"I'm truly shocked," Schumacher told German tabloid Bild newspaper. "I didn't do anything wrong. I'm definitely not a Rambo. Seriously, I feel completely innocent."

Team principal Frank Williams confirmed in a statement on Monday afternoon the Williams team's intention to appeal. "We fully respect the authority of the FIA, and acknowledge their responsibility to protect the safety of those involved in the sport," he said. "However, we are using the appeal process provided for by the FIA to clarify all of the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the suitability of the penalty imposed."
