Williams Wrap Up Jerez Test - Final Day

The Williams-BMW team today wrapped up a four-day testing session at the Jerez circuit in Southern Spain.

The Williams-BMW team today wrapped up a four-day testing session at the Jerez circuit in Southern Spain.

The British squad, still fighting for the Constructors' Championship, focused on set-up work for the final race in Suzuka with three drivers concentrating on chassis, tyre and aero development testing.

Test driver Marc Gene also completed a race distance with the new BMW P84 engine that will be used next season. Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia, returning to Williams after being dropped by Jaguar, again posted the fastest time in today's session, outpacing Gene after 78 laps.

"We have completed our year long testing programme at Jerez in Spain with a good test," said Sam Michael, Williams's chief operations engineer. "All of the drivers have done a good job, Ralf on wet setup, Marc on race simulation and tyre testing while Antonio was working on long runs for mechanical setup.

"There was some rain and bad weather which enabled us to work on our wet performance with Michelin. We also had quite a lot of dry running which enabled us to progress the electronics, mechanical set up and new aerodynamic parts for Suzuka. We also had an extensive tyre test with Michelin, confirming new tyre compounds for Suzuka.

"Well done to the test team and the factory staff that have supported them with the equipment that they needed to sustain such a long program. They are an essential part of our World Championship challenge."
