Williams Not in Battle for Pole, Says Berger

The Williams team will not be fighting for pole position in tomorrow's qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix, according to BMW motorsport boss Gerhard Berger.

The Williams team will not be fighting for pole position in tomorrow's qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix, according to BMW motorsport boss Gerhard Berger.

"We are not happy even though we knew this track would not suit our car," said the Austrian. "I do believe anyway that our grid position will be better than what we have achieved today even though this time we won't be fighting for the pole position at all."

German Ralf Schumacher and Colombian teammate Juan Pablo Montoya, second and third in the Championship standings after the first four races of the season, struggled during today's session, being unable to find the right set-up for the Michelin-shod FW24.

Schumacher was the fastest of the two Williams drivers, setting a disappointing 15th quickest time, while Montoya was down in 17th. Both dirvers admitted that there was still a lot of work ahead for them.

"This track doesn't really suit us, as we were expecting," said Schumacher. "We still have big problems with the set-up of the car and we are mostly fighting with getting good balance."

Montoya added: "I am not happy with the set-up of the car as my times clearly show. We have several areas we need to work on in order to sort out our problems and get a good set-up for tomorrow's qualifying."
