Williams Launch Investigation Into Ralf's Crash

Williams-BMW are to launch an investigation into the testing accident that saw German driver Ralf Schumacher hospitalised on Tuesday after dismissing the possibility of driver error.

Williams-BMW are to launch an investigation into the testing accident that saw German driver Ralf Schumacher hospitalised on Tuesday after dismissing the possibility of driver error.

Schumacher crashed out at over 150mph at Monza and spent a night under observation at Milan's San Raffaele hospital before being released on Wednesday.

"I still have a little bit of a headache," said Schumacher, who will miss out on the rest of Williams' vital testing sessions this week ahead of the Italian Grand Prix. "I am not quite 100 per cent, but I am just glad the effects were not any worse," he added.

Schumacher has already flown home to recuperate in Salzburg, Austria, with doctors advising him to rest at least until Monday even though he sustained no broken bones.

In the mean time, Williams have ruled out driver error as the cause for the accident and said the team will investigate the cause.

"Williams' Chief Operations Manager Sam Michael has confirmed that the team are to launch a formal investigation into the cause of the crash but has ruled out driver error," said a spokesman for the team.

Schumacher's car was briefly engulfed in flame during a pitlane accident prior to the crash, but Williams said the incident had no influence on the crash that followed.

The German is expected to be fit for the Italian Grand Prix, with official tester Marc Gene, of Spain, taking over test-driving duties in the meantime.
