Webber sixth for Jaguar

Sixth place for Mark Webber at the Nurburgring emphasised Jaguar Racing's continued progress, and it could have been added to but for team-mate Antonio Pizzonia being given a stop/go penalty that dropped him to 10th.

Despite sixth place improving on the three seventh place finishes that Webber had scored before the European Grand Prix meeting, he was slightly disappointed: "That was a tough and sometimes frustrating race," commented the Australian.

"I'm a little disappointed not to have achieved a better balance. At times, the tyres were simply too good. I suffered understeer during the first two stints, but after my second stop the car was very competitive. It was interesting and quite exciting to fight Jenson Button's BAR and, in the end, my pit crew did a great job to get me back out there ahead of him."

Head of Vehicle Performance Dr Mark Gillan said: "Our tyre choice, race strategy and yet another fine drive from Mark hasve earned us three precious championship points today. We were quite comfortable going into this race knowing that we had opted for a race strategy all weekend as opposed to putting too many eggs into the qualifying basket. And this paid off today.

Antonio was unlucky to have suffered a stop/go penalty and we'll have to look at the data to see where exactly the offence was committed. However, we're clearly making an impression on our reliability targets and, combined with the competitiveness of the Jaguar R4, we'll be looking for more points at Magny-Cours next weekend."

Pizzonia left the Nurburgring rueing not only his stop/go penalty but also a self-inflicted handling problem: "That was a frustrating race for me as there was some confusion between myself and the pit crew when it came to the tyre change during my second stop. It appears that the wrong tyres were put onto my car and this didn't make for an easy race."
