Webber Apologised to Alonso

Australian Mark Webber has apologised to Renault driver Fernando Alonso for an incident during Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix.

Australian Mark Webber has apologised to Renault driver Fernando Alonso for an incident during Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix.

Alonso was critical of Webber following the race after the pair had fought for position for some laps during the middle stages of the event.

The Spanish driver said after the Bahrain race that Webber had nearly put him in the wall at the start of the race, and was visibly unhappy when the Australian blocked him during their fight later on.

Webber said a misunderstanding was to blame for his antics, and revealed he had talked to Alonso after the race.

"I moved over to let him go, but at the last moment they told me on the radio I was racing for position and it was Alonso, not [Jarno] Trulli," Webber told The Australian newspaper. "So I moved across right in front of him. He must have wondered what the hell was going on.

"Fernando was pissed off with me and what I did was wrong. I spoke to him after the race because I wasn't fair to him and I wanted to explain."

Alonso went on to finish in sixth position while Webber scored Jaguar's first point of the season after finishing in eighth.
