Villeneuve to Start from Pitlane

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve will start the Brazilian Grand Prix from the pitlane after making a change to his car while in parc ferme

Under current regulations, teams are not allowed to replace parts of their cars between the end of qualifying and the start of the race.

Villeneuve's Sauber team, however, have replaced an anti-roll bar link from his car and so the Canadian will be forced to take the start from the pitlane.

Villeneuve had qualified in 12th position.

"The stewards received a report from the Technical Delegate which stated that the Right Hand Side rear suspension anti roll bar link was removed from car Number 11 whilst the car was under Parc Ferme conditions," said the FIA in a statement.

"The Stewards after hearing the explanation of the Competitor's representative referred to Article 118 of the 2005 Formula One Sporting Regulations, which is specific regarding the work that can be carried out in Parc Ferme.

"In accordance with Article 120 of the 2005 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations the car must start the race from the pitlane. The Competitor is reminded of his right of appeal."
