Villeneuve: No Bitterness with BAR

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve said on Thursday that he is no longer bitter over the way he left Formula One last year and insisted he will be back to business as usual in this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve said on Thursday that he is no longer bitter over the way he left Formula One last year and insisted he will be back to business as usual in this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.

Villeneuve, who ditched BAR-Honda before the final race in Japan last season, is returning to the track with Renault for the final three races as a replacement for Italian Jarno Trulli.

"It's great to be back, also because of the reception and the way I've been received within Renault has been very positive," said the Canadian. "That makes it much better. I'm sure a lot can be done. In the car, I just get in the car and get on with the job. You start driving, you do laps, it's business as usual.

Villeneuve will team up with highly-rated young Spaniard Fernando Alonso for the final three races and said the driver, who is the youngest ever race winner, will be tough to beat.

"He's a fantastic driver," said Villeneuve. "He is very fast and he knows the team very well. I'm not expecting to have to match him at this point. Anything I can learn from him and take in will be helpful these last few races.

"Renault are fast. It's a fast car. There had been an opportunity to drive, when we talked to [team boss] Flavio [Briatore] a few years ago, and it didn't work out. It was a good opportunity to get that going now even if it's only for three races.

"They have a goal, something to shoot at and I want to help. I've always worked well with the team, the engineers, the mechanics. There was never any problem.

Villeneuve is treating his opportunity as a second start, after one year off, and he believes all the negatives he has developed will be blown away by the break.

"All the negatives had been piling up for five years, it allowed me to get it all out," said Villeneuve. It's a little bit like a second start, it's more exciting than carrying on every year. There's not a vendetta with Jenson [Button]. I'm quite happy he's doing well actually.

"For a while I was part of that project and now he's carried that on. There's no point in thinking every driver is your enemy. It's better to beat someone you respect. The job he's done this year has been very impressive. When someone's done a good job you say it. It would be fun (to beat BAR).

"It's not bitterness or anger, it would be fun."
