US GP Wins Promoters' Cup

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has won the Formula One Constructors Association Award, presented to the best promoter and event organizer in Formula One each year.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has won the Formula One Constructors Association Award, presented to the best promoter and event organizer in Formula One each year.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway President and CEO Tony George accepted the trophy from Formula One Management President Bernie Ecclestone during the FIA's annual end-of-season awards ceremony on Friday, at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club in Monaco.

Formula One returned to the United States for the first time since 1991 at the inaugural SAP United States Grand Prix Sept. 22-24. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway undertook an expansive, multimillion-dollar renovation project from 1998-2000 to prepare the facility for Grand Prix racing.

"This award is a tribute to all of the men and women of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the local host committee who worked so hard to prepare for the SAP United States Grand Prix," George said. "The expectations were high, and they were met.

"I believe the drivers, teams, sponsors and officials of Formula One and FIA were as pleased as we were with the results. We hope to be contenders for this award for many years to come."
