'Unjust' result for Jaguar

Jaguar's head of vehicle performance, Dr Mark Gillan, has described the team's double retirement from the Monaco Grand Prix as "unjust", after the strong performance displayed by the outfit all weekend.

Antonio Pizzonia dropped out of the race on lap 14 with what is believed to be an electrical problem, only for Webber to follow him out of the race three laps later with an engine air leak.

"A thoroughly disappointing end to what should have been a points-winning race for us," surmised Gillan. "The drivers have been very happy with the balance and the pace of the car all weekend and to have retired both cars in this manner is unjust given the competitiveness of the car around this circuit."

Webber admitted his frustration at his retirement, but said that the team needed to focus on solving the reliability problems before the next race in Canada.

"The team and I our obviously frustrated that our race weekend ended on lap 17," said the Australian. "Our reliability record has been outstanding and we were certainly aiming to add some more points to our score.

"The team has done a good job all weekend and we will go away with the aim of working out these issues in time for Canada and also positive that the car's pace is there and we can work on reliability."
