Jarno Trulli is hoping to keep his momentum going in Saturday's qualifying and Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix after posting the quickest time of today's practice.
The Italian driver, yet to score a point this year after four retirements in six races, stormed to the top of the timesheets during the final moments of the second session to give his Renault team a boost after a disappointing Austrian Grand Prix, where the team failed to score.
"It was a good performance today, and I really want to thank the team for all their work," said Trulli after the end of the session. "The conditions here are extremely difficult, but we didn't have any problems at all.
"I'm pleased with the handling of the car - there's still more speed to find, but on this circuit, you need to be happy with the car before you can really push, and I was able to do so straight away.
"Now I want to confirm this performance, not just in qualifying, but most importantly during the race on Sunday."
Teammate Jenson Button, who have scored all of Renault's points this year, set the tenth quickest time.
