Trulli calls for 'big push' from Toyota

Jarno Trulli reckons the Toyota team need a big push to be able to fight near the top of this year's Formula One field

The Japanese squad, one of the sport's big spenders, have failed to match their expectations in the early part of the season, with a sixth place in Indianapolis as their best result in seven races.

Trulli has scored seven points so far, while teammate Ralf Schumacher has finished eighth twice.

The Italian driver admitted it was a nice surprised to get his best result at Indianapolis, but he still believes Toyota need to push hard in order to be where they want to be.

"It was a surprise to get such a good result in USA as we were nowhere but the reality is we are still half a second slower so we really need to push," Trulli told autosport.com during testing at Silverstone.

"We cannot stay where we are. Of course any points are welcome but we should not be happy with this at all.

"We did a good job, in strategy, set-up in that race but we still need to find more pace. I suppose it depends on the target you have: if you are only looking for a point, then yes, you should be content with that but we are not.

"We want more than that, and we really need a big push."

Trulli, who finished on top of the timesheets on Wednesday at Silverstone, was encouraged by the performance of his car in high downforce configuration, but the Italian played down the significance of his time.

"It was positive in many areas, and it was better in the morning but when we changed the bits in the suspension there was something wrong and in the afternoon the wind picked up," said Trulli.

"It is very difficult to judge, and I have not really done anything on the tyres but the car seems to be be better in this high downforce configuration. Handling is better so I suppose it is good.

"The fastest time? It really does not matter how quick we are in a test, really."
