Toyota: We could have scored

Toyota boss Ove Andersson believes his team could have been in the points in Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix had their strategy not been spoiled by long periods behind the safety car

The Formula 1 rookie was one of just three teams to have both cars still running at the finish of the race following Mika Salo's and Allan McNish's eighth and ninth place at the A1-Ring.

"Another strong performance from the whole team," said Andersson. "We again showed our reliability with no major problems. The safety car upset our race strategy and I believe we could have had both cars in the points."

The safety car was deployed first when Olivier Panis's BAR spun on the start-finish straight, then was back out almost straightaway following Nick Heidfeld's crash with Takuma Sato.

Some cars were able to make places by diving into the pits for an impromptu pit stop as soon as the safety car first came out, but the Toyotas lost out when the silver Mercedes was deployed.

"We were much improved in terms of our competitiveness at this particular circuit," continued the Swede, "so things seem to be on the way up."
