Fisichella Delighted with Unexpected Points

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella was delighted after scoring the first points of the season for the Jordan team at Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix.

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella was delighted after scoring the first points of the season for the Jordan team at Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix.

Fisichella, who had qualified in a disappointing 15th place, recovered well from Saturday's result and pushed hard to finish in an unexpected fifth place that allowed the Silverstone-based squad to clinch their first top six finish of what has been a tough season so far.

The Italian driver was happy with the result, and with the fact that his teammate Takuma Sato escaped injury following a dramatic crash on lap 27 of the race.

"It has been a very, very good day for me as I did not expect to score points," said Fisichella. "But the most important thing is that thank God Takuma is alright. When I was behind the McLaren it was quicker on the straights but I was confident on the corners and then David drove on an oily patch and I had my chance to take fifth place.

"It felt fantastic when I crossed the line and I would like to say thank you to the team, especially because we made the right pit stop decision."
