'Touch and go' for Hill at finish
Eddie Jordan has revealed the drama of Damon Hill's last few laps at an emotional British Grand Prix as he called on the ex-champion to carry on racing to the end of the season
'The last four laps were touch and go for Damon,' he said.
'His car had a pneumatic pressure problem so we told him to back off as we knew we had a good gap from Pedro Diniz.'
He said Hill cruised home to fifth and his team boss now hopes he will see out the season before retiring as originally planned.
Hill kept the world guessing about his future as the paddock swirled with speculation.
Some said he had hit the high note on which to bow out while other's believe he now has the mood and the machinery to make him want to continue to the end of the year.
fter Damon's performance today I am not so sure he will want to stop,' said Jordan.
'It is up to him but the team is behind him and would like him to continue if he can drive the way he drove today.
'If he keeps this up he should continue to the end of the season. It was a great day for him and for the fans - a great British Grand Prix.'
