Spyker upbeat about aero upgrade

The Spyker team are expecting to take a step forward at the Malaysian Grand Prix, thanks to the introduction of aerodynamic updates at the Sepang race

Although the team were the only ones not to travel to Malaysia for this week's four-day test, technical chief Mike Gascoyne is adamant the aerodynamic upgrade to be introduced in their F8-VII car next week will make a significant difference in their performance.

"We were where we expected to be in Australia in qualifying time difference, but on race pace we were pretty close to the group in front," said Gascoyne in a team preview.

"For Malaysia the goal is now to transfer the aero upgrade onto the car and move forward.

"The simulations we have conducted in the wind tunnel suggest the modifications will give a significant increase in performance and hopefully we will be able to move further up the field."

Spyker driver Christijan Albers and Adrian Sutil will get their first taste of the updated car in Friday's practice in Malaysia, with the team having decided not to run any of their test drivers, as first revealed by autosport.com.
