Schumacher win won't panic McLaren

McLaren boss Ron Dennis says that his team will still not be panicked into debuting the new MP4-18A chassis despite Michael Schumacher and Ferrari taking over at the top of the drivers and constructors championships after the Canadian GP

"There are two decision points," Dennis said. "One is points related - how aggressive do we have to be as regards our efforts towards wining the world championship with the existing cars. They are very reliable, competitive most of the time and therefore whilst there are performance steps to come out of the new car, reliability is critical to accumulating points.

"We are leaning towards the cautious route of introducing the car later, but a massive swing in the points might generate a more aggressive introduction of the car. Canada alone won't trigger that decision. It will also be as a result of the Jerez test this week.

"The other element is the fact that back-to-back races will put us under quite a bit of pressure for the new car and that will be taken into consideration. The latest introduction date is Silverstone but earlier is not out of the question."
