Schumacher could drive in two weeks

Michael Schumacher is set to defy medics by returning to the cockpit within the next two weeks

Schumacher broke his right leg in two places following a huge crash during the opening lap of the British Grand Prix.

He was expected to miss most of the remainder of this season.

However, the double world champion's press agent Heiner Buckinger, said, 'I think Michael [Schumacher] will be getting on the track in a couple of weeks, but no one should expect to see him back racing too soon.

'The doctor said a normal person should take 12 to 16 weeks to recover from such an injury, but with Michael, it could be a lot sooner.

'The problem is that Michael has never broken a leg before so we'll have to wait and see.'

Schumacher, who could return as early as September's Italian GP, will only be able to race again when he has satisfied Formula One officials he can jump out of the car's cockpit inside the specified five-second safety limit.
