Scheckter Looking for Race Drive this Year

Jaguar's test driver Tomas Scheckter has admitted he is looking for a race drive to combine it with his testing role this season.

Jaguar's test driver Tomas Scheckter has admitted he is looking for a race drive to combine it with his testing role this season.

Scheckter, son of 1979 Formula One World Champion Jody, was the 2000 runner up in the British Formula 3 Championship and competed with the McLaren Junior Team in the final rounds of the F3000 championship before signing a deal with Jaguar.

"If I don't get a race deal with Jaguar [in 2002], I'll definitely look at other options," Scheckter said. "I'd love to drive for Jaguar, but other options might come up.

"I have to be racing and I'll hopefully have a race deal for this year as well."

The South-African is still unsure about his racing options for the 2001 season, but he admitted he is not keen to race in F3000 again.

"My aim is Formula One so I'd like to get something that's similar to that," he added. "I'm not really looking at F3000 so much. I'm mainly interested in Formula Nippon in Japan or Formula Nissan in Spain."
