Sauber works to find more speed
Formula 1 midfielder Sauber is aiming to add to its points tally in this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix after concentrating on improvements to its Petronas-powered C21 chassis since Austria
"It is especially important for the drivers and the team to work very closely together in practice and qualifying to perfect the car's mechanical set-ups, because track conditions are changing here more often than on any other race track," said technical director Willy Rampf. "In recent weeks further development of our hydraulic differential and traction and launch control systems should pay dividends in this area this weekend."
Both drivers are looking forward to this weekend's race around the streets of Monte Carlo. Nick Heidfeld had a disappointing race last year, crashing his Sauber on the first lap after a collision with Jos Verstappen's Arrows, but is aiming for better fortune this time.
"Monte Carlo is my favourite circuit," he said. "That's not just because I have had some fond memories from past successes there, but also because it is one of those places where you have to be precise, accurate and consistent lap after lap."
Team-mate Felipe Massa will contest his first Monaco event, but the Brazilian is still confident of a good result.
"For any racing driver, competing in your first Monaco GP is a major milestone," he said. "I am really looking forward to this race, and to the chance to increase my points score, especially as we have done a lot of good work recently on the car to prepare it for this unique circuit."
