Sauber Confirm Date for Liuzzi Test

F3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi will test for the Sauber team at the Jerez circuit on 16 September, the Formula One squad said today.

F3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi will test for the Sauber team at the Jerez circuit on 16 September, the Formula One squad said today.

The 22-year old Italian driver clinched the F3000 title last weekend at Spa, having won seven races this season, and could claim a record number of victories in a year if he wins in Italy next week.

"While there have been several indications in the past showing that Vitantonio has a lot of talent, what has impressed me most is the way in which he has been dominating Formula 3000 this year," said team principal Peter Sauber.

"During this test we want to get a feeling for how he is able to apply his skills to a Formula One car."

Sauber said they are also planning to invite one or two other young drivers for tests at a later time yet to be determined. The Swiss squad are looking for a replacement for Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, who will leave to drive for Renault next year.
