Salo Penalised over Pitlane Incident

Finn driver Mika Salo has been relegated from 13th to 15th position at Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix after receiving a 25-second penalty for a pitlane infraction.

Finn driver Mika Salo has been relegated from 13th to 15th position at Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix after receiving a 25-second penalty for a pitlane infraction.

The Toyota driver nearly crashed with Jaguar's Pedro de la Rosa when accelerating in the pitlane after his second pit stop. Salo got moving while de la Rosa was running down the pitlane, and the Spanish driver was forced to take avoiding action and slow down in order to avoid crashing.

"I had a close call with de la Rosa in the pitlane, which I have been penalised for," said Salo. "I drove a good race today and kept off some pressure towards the end, so I am not happy about losing 25 seconds for what I think was normal.

"About 20 laps from the end my fire extinguisher in the car went off as well and sprayed foam everywhere. I couldn't really see anything after that and had to drive the last laps from memory."

As a consequence of the penalty, Salo has lost two places.
