Salo Calls for Improvements for Saturday

Mika Salo has warned Toyota they need to improve their car to hold onto the sensational sixth fastest time he set on the first day of the team's competitive Grand Prix debut in Australia.

Mika Salo has warned Toyota they need to improve their car to hold onto the sensational sixth fastest time he set on the first day of the team's competitive Grand Prix debut in Australia.

The Finn, driving for the team after a year's break from racing while he tested their car last season, was immediately on the pace in Friday practice. But he has warned that they will need to find at least two more seconds from the car after revealing his run was made on a low fuel load.

When asked if he would need to improve to stay in sixth place in Saturday's qualifying session, he said: "I don't know how much time. At least two seconds to try to keep at least even close to a similar position tomorrow."

However, the newcomers are not used to the track and Salo said that only five or six members of the team have been involved in a Formula One race before. And he praised the team for their faultless efforts, adding: "There was not one mistake all day and we didn't do much changes with the car."

Because of the team's lack of experience of the track, they made some mistakes with the set up of the car and there are many changes to be made before the first qualifying session of the season on Saturday.

"We had quite a few things wrong," he admitted. "Starting from gear ratios, which are completely wrong. The car did not feel nice to drive all day and I thought it would be slower. I don't think the lap time is actually good, I think everybody else's was even worse than ours."
