Rubens Barrichello Q&A
Rubens Barrichello did everything that was asked of him by taking second place behind Michael Schumacher in Hungary, helping to secure the constructors' title for Ferrari. The Brazilian now has a good chance of taking second place in the championship, and that will be the team's priority over the next four races. Rubens experienced a few lows this season, but now things are looking good for him once again. Adam Cooper spoke to him after the race
"It was a fantastic day in every respect, even more after Michael has given me the trophy. It's shows we have a fantastic team and we work well together. The car worked well the whole time, and I just decided to stay cool to see if I could get my position back."
"I work as if the positive will always come to you. I told myself that if I stayed cool I would have a really good chance. My starts have been quite good during the whole weekend, so I knew that I could have a good start. It was really what happened."
"It's been a fantastic race, and in a way even if the start of the race was different it wouldn't have made a change. Michael deserved it. Because DC overtook me we were on a quick pace, and you could argue maybe it could have been different. But I don't think so, because it's impossible to overtake in Hungary."
"I wasn't fantastically happy with the car. Ross told me to drive it carefully, to have a peaceful run, to keep DC behind."
"Yeah, and he was telling me, 'You're there, you're there, you're there - magic!' It was a great feeling. The feeling that I lost during the first pit stop I gained everything back in double at the second one, because I was in front when it mattered. So it was really a good feeling."
"My out lap was a really quick one. It was probably the best moment of my race. The tyres were not new, and I had to go out so damn fast, and it worked."
"Yeah, but there was more emotion when he gave me the trophy just after the ceremony. After all Michael is a person who is not known by his feelings... Maybe he is becoming more and more emotional!"
"I think it might sound a bit lacking in modesty, but I feel very competitive. Everyone has ups and downs, but Michael has more ups than downs. And I'm going through a part of my career where I'm beginning to have that, a little bit more ups. But I still have downs, and I never see him doing that. He's able to keep up more. It's been a few years that the team has been fighting for something and never got it, and these last two years we got it twice, so I feel part of it. I don't think it's just co-incidence."
"I don't know. We just have to race as hard as we can, see what is there. If I'm fighting for sixth and Michael's winning the race, he's never going to be able to do something [to help me]. I'm not counting on it. I just have to do my job and concentrate."
"I like Spa very much, I like the place itself. Monza was a good track for me last year, apart from the crash, and I love Indy. Suzuka is a fine place, and my son is going to be coming around then, so I hope I can have the result by then!"
