Q & A with Flavio Briatore

Conducted and provided by Renault's press office.

Conducted and provided by Renault's press office.

Q. Flavio, how was your weekend?

Flavio Briatore:

We saw an exceptional race yesterday. From the start of the weekend, we knew that the car would be good in Monaco. Our performances have improved gradually this season, culminating in this well-earned win. Jarno was untouchable yesterday. Even if Michael hadn't had his accident, he would have finished third.

Q. How tense was it on the last lap?

FB:

Very - because anything can happen, even in the last few metres. Having said that, everything looked fine on the telemetry and we knew Jenson couldn't cause Jarno any problems, even though he was applying a lot of pressure. But it was a very long race - 77 laps, a number of safety car periods and quite a slow average speed. We were all a bit drained by the finish!

Q. Jarno put in a perfect performance all weekend.

FB:

Exactly. His qualifying lap was fantastic - we didn't think we could qualify so well and, as the race demonstrated, we had a good amount of fuel in the car. He made no mistakes at all during the race, controlled the pace and demonstrated what he is capable of. There has never been any question about his talent, and this result confirms it.

Q. Are you disappointed not to get two cars to the finish?

FB:

That's the only disappointment. We were on course for a one-two finish, and Fernando's accident robbed us of it.

Q. And have you got anything to say to the team?

FB:

Since last winter, the whole team at Enstone and Viry, indeed throughout the whole Renault Group, has been exceptional. Today's result is a well-deserved reward. Well done to everybody. We will enjoy the moment. and then get straight back to work.
