Pollock Suggests Villeneuve May Take a Break

BAR managing director Craig Pollock has suggested that Canadian former world champion Jacques Villeneuve could take a break from Formula One unless he gets a car good enough to win races.

BAR managing director Craig Pollock has suggested that Canadian former world champion Jacques Villeneuve could take a break from Formula One unless he gets a car good enough to win races.

British newspapers on Friday quoted Pollock as saying that 1997 champion Villeneuve, despite a rumoured big money move from his British American Racing team to Renault-owned Benetton, had not yet decided his future.

"I've been with Jacques in a boat for the past five days and I know he's signed for no one," the Independent quoted him as saying at the Austrian Grand Prix.

"He's in no hurry to sign for anyone and he's quite capable of taking a sabbatical because he's so hard-headed."

"I obviously want him to stay with us and we're working night and day to give him what he wants to get him close to McLaren and Ferrari.

"Benetton is a worry because we probably couldn't compete with Renault.

"He knows his value and he commands a very high salary because he's a world champion, but he doesn't care about money, only winning," the paper quoted Pollock as saying.

The Times also quoted Pollock as saying that 29-year-old Villeneuve "might decide to wait around" until a drive with Ferrari or McLaren became available.
