Pizzonia Outpaces McNish at Monza - Day One

Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia was the fastest of the two men working at the Monza circuit on Tuesday, the first of a four-day test at the Italian circuit.

Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia was the fastest of the two men working at the Monza circuit on Tuesday, the first of a four-day test at the Italian circuit.

The Williams test driver was more than three seconds quicker than Scot Allan McNish despite suffering a problem very early in the morning. Pizzonia's car stopped on track with an apparent launch control problem and had be to towed back to the pits.

Toyota was the other team on track, but McNish worked only in the afternoon, completing 38 laps with the Michelin-shod TF102.

"We had some problems this morning and did not do any running at all. We started to work on aero balance in the afternoon in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix, as Monza is different to any other circuit for this," said the Scot.

"We also looked closely at how the car rides the kerbs - a big problem we had in Montreal and something we have to work on at this kind of track, but it's early days."

Testing at Monza will resume tomorrow.
