Panis Sets the Pace at Barcelona - Morning Session

Frenchman Olivier Panis topped the times in the cold morning session on the second day of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.

Frenchman Olivier Panis topped the times in the cold morning session on the second day of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.

The Toyota driver was one of the many men joining the Barcelona test, where a total of 12 drivers were in action today, although only nine set a lap time while Renault drivers Fernando Alonso and Jarno Trulli, and BAR's Jacques Villeneuve only completed a couple of installation laps with their cars.

The Williams team kicked off their test today and worked with all three drivers as they continued developing the new BMW-powered FW25. Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya was the quickest of the Williams trio with the first of the FW25s, while Marc Gene was fifth and Ralf Schumacher finished down in seventh.

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella and Briton Ralph Firman were again in charge of the testing duties for the Jordan squad, who put more miles on the new EJ13. Fisichella was fourth quickest after 21 laps, while rookie Firman posted the sixth fastest time.

Testing continues in the afternoon.
