'Nervous' Williams needs improving

Williams drivers Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya believe their car has the potential to be a challenger this weekend but admit that there's a lot of work to be done tomorrow (Saturday). Ralf was fourth quickest in free practice one, while Montoya was sixth, behind the Toyota of Mika Salo

"The car is still very nervous in the quicker parts of the circuit," said Schumacher, "which we have to sort out. In the second session we changed the set-up quite a lot, which has paid off."

Both drivers were very quick in the first sector of the lap, but lost out on the remainder of the circuit, particularly the twisty middle section. The team took satisfaction with the reliability of its cars, especially the BMW engine, which stood up well to the intense heat.

"We had no problems at all on the engine side," said BMW's Mario Theissen, "and the speed trap on the straight shows that we are in front. You cannot simulate on the dyno the pressure of such high temperatures and humidity."

Williams are looking for their first pole since Montoya claimed the top starting slot for the 2001 Italian GP.
