Montoya: We'll have to Work Hard

The Williams team have a lot of work ahead of them in order to recover from a disappointing start of their San Marino Grand Prix.

The Williams team have a lot of work ahead of them in order to recover from a disappointing start of their San Marino Grand Prix.

The BMW-powered Williams team arrived as favourites to win Sunday's race but were well off the pace in a session in which times mattered little.

Ralf Schumacher, eight points behind his leading older brother in the Championship, beached his car in the gravel trap at the end of the first session after skidding off while following teammate Juan Pablo Montoya.

The German driver finished in tenth place, while the Colombian, who had a big spin in the second session, finished the day just ahead of Ralf in 1:39.480. Both drivers claimed there was still a lot of work to do in order to be competitive on Saturday.

"We have been working with the car and tried different tyres in an effort to find the right compromise for tomorrow," said Montoya, who was ninth fastest. "The track was very wet this morning, at the beginning of the session, there were puddles everywhere, so it was pretty difficult to get useful information.

"After that, we were able to get some work done but didn't improve too much in the end. We need to work hard now and we will see where we can end up tomorrow."

"I am not happy, as one can easily understand from my lap times," added Ralf, winner at Imola last year. "Unfortunately the continuous rain didn't allow us any true improvement. There is still a lot of work to do ahead of us."
