Juan Pablo Montoya was the fastest man on the final day of testing at the Paul Ricard circuit, where a four-day test came to an end today.
Driving around the longer version of the French circuit, Colombian Williams driver Montoya finished more than a second ahead of Alexander Wurz who enjoyed a much better session than yesterday as he continued with the development of the new McLaren MP4-18.
After covering only 10 laps on Thursday due to mechanical problems, Austrian Wurz could complete a total of 30 laps to post the second fastest time, outpacing Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa, who was back in action today and drove the old MP4-17D chassis.
De la Rosa was fourth quickest behind compatriot Marc Gene, who set the third fastest time with the second Williams FW25. Toyota's test driver Ricardo Zonta replaced Cristiano da Matta at the wheel of the only TF103 car on track, the Brazilian finishing at the bottom of the times.
"I drove on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Vairano circuit working on aerodynamic tests and came to Le Castellet to drive the fourth and last day of the session, during which we used the longest version of the track (configuration 3B)," explained Zonta.
"I was in charge of evaluating aerodynamic solutions ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix and also to conduct some longer-term development work. It was a very productive and interesting test on both circuits, for me and for the team."
