Montoya Calls for Improved Launch Control

Juan Pablo Montoya has told his Williams engineers that they need to use the Monaco Grand Prix as a wake-up call to improve the team's performance.

Juan Pablo Montoya has told his Williams engineers that they need to use the Monaco Grand Prix as a wake-up call to improve the team's performance.

Colombian Montoya qualified on pole position on Saturday, but lost out to McLaren's David Coulthard in the run to the opening corner and the Colombian blamed the team's launch control package.

He lost two places at the start of the Austrian Grand Prix two weeks ago and, after retiring from second-place in Monaco because of engine failure, Montoya called for an improvement in launch control software.

"I think it was more the software because the engine pulled away well," Montoya said of his start. "In the last race we lost two places and here one place at the start. I need to talk to the engineers but I need to tell them that we need to do something. This is a wake-up call."

Montoya had hoped to claim his first victory of the season but despite engine failure ending his hopes, he was happy with his own performance in the principality.

"I think we had a mixture of problems that resulted in the engine failure," he added. "I'm a bit disappointed but that's racing and I'm pretty happy as well because I didn't make any mistakes."
