Montoya Blames Villeneuve for Accident

Juan Pablo Montoya has blamed Jacques Villeneuve for the opening lap accident that put him out of the Japanese Grand Prix

Montoya was working his way through the field when he ran off the track while trying to go around the outside of Villeneuve on the run down to the start-finish straight.

Speaking to ITV, Montoya claimed that Villeneuve had simply run him off the track.

"It is pretty sad," said Montoya. "Three cars in front of me missed the chicane including Jacques in front of me. I went to pass him on the outside and he pushed me off the circuit.

"He blocked me left so I went to the right and he went onto my line and I ran out of road."

Montoya skipped across the gravel trap and hit the tyre barriers - badly damaging the left-hand side of his car.

The incident could be a major blow to McLaren's hopes of the Constructors' Championship, which Renault currently lead by two points.
