Montagny Ends Valencia Test on Top - Final Day
This week's testing session at the Valencia circuit came to an end today, with Frenchman Franck Montagny posting the quickest time of the day.
This week's testing session at the Valencia circuit came to an end today, with Frenchman Franck Montagny posting the quickest time of the day.
The Renault test driver, however, was the only man driving a 2004 car.
His teammate Giancarlo Fisichella, meanwhile, debuted at the wheel of the new R25 as he took over from Spaniard Fernando Alonso, who had worked with the car earlier this week. Fisichella was second quickest after 91 laps.
Takuma Sato set the third fastest time of the day with the BAR-Honda 007, while Briton Anthony Davidson, re-joining the test today, was fourth quickest.
The Toyota team wrapped up their programme with Italian Jarno Trulli again working alongside Frenchman Olivier Panis. Both men drove the new TF105 chassis, but Trulli was hit by trouble late in the session and was forced to switch to Panis' car.
"Apart from the conditions, Thursday was a positive day because we did a lot of laps quite easily," said Trulli. "We found some good steps on the car, so we made some good progress. We also did some tyre testing which we continued on Friday with longer runs, along with work on set-up and dampers.
"I swapped to Olivier's car towards the end of Friday's session because of a mechanical problem on my chassis which would have required too much time to fix at the circuit."
Testing returns to Valencia next Tuesday.
