Montagny Back on Top at Barcelona - Final Day

Renault's test driver Franck Montagny finished quickest on the final day of this year's testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain.

Renault's test driver Franck Montagny finished quickest on the final day of this year's testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain.

The four teams testing at the Spanish track were welcomed by better weather today following a very wet session on Wednesday. Montagny, quickest on the first day of work, returned to the top of the times with his R23 car after completing more than two Grand Prix distances.

The Frenchman covered 136 laps, almost 50 more than the second busiest driver today. Montagny finished slightly ahead of Austrian Alexander Wurz in the McLaren MP4-17D, and more than half a second ahead of Scot David Coulthard, who was again at the wheel of the MP4-19.

Brazilian Ricardo Zonta posted the fourth quickest time ahead of Toyota's second test driver Ryan Briscoe, who outpaced Jaguar's Christian Klien. The Austrian driver had a good session with his R4 car and managed to be faster than Australian teammate Mark Webber, who finished at the bottom of the times.

Heikki Kovalainen was in action with the Renault for the second day running after making his Formula One debut yesterday. The Finn, who saw his progress hampered by the rain on Wednesday, had a much better session and completed 58 laps to finish as seventh quickest.

Testing returns to Barcelona in January.
