Minardi to run two-seaters in China

Minardi will become the first Formula 1 team to run cars in China, when its two-seaters appear at a promotional event in Beijing on December 8

The team will run a pair of its specially-built cars at the launch event for the new Goldenport Motor Park. China is due to host its first Grand Prix in 2004 at a new circuit to be built near Shanghai.

The event has been organised by Dato' Dr Cam Soh, the chairman of Malaysian alloy wheel manufacturer BSA. It is designed to build awareness of F1 amongst the Chinese population, and a crowd of up to 50,000 is anticipated.

Speaking about the event, Minardi boss Paul Stoddart said: "Our aim from the outset of the programme has been to bring F1 closer to the fans, in order that they come to understand and share the passion we have for the sport.

"We are both honoured and proud to be able to bring the Formula One two-seater experience to the people of China, as we have to motor racing fans in many other countries. It's an exciting prospect for all involved."
