Michelin Satisfied with Qualifying Effort

Michelin boss Pierre Dupasquier was satisfied with the performance of their partner teams Williams and Renault during today's qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Michelin boss Pierre Dupasquier was satisfied with the performance of their partner teams Williams and Renault during today's qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Michelin-shod Williams of Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya were the quickest of the runners using the French rubber, while Italian Jarno Trulli and teammate Jenson Button completed a promising session for Michelin with the sixth and ninth times respectively.

"Getting two cars onto the second row is a pretty good result for us and proves that Williams and BMW have done an awful lot of hard work to create a good package," said Dupasquier. "Even after this morning's final free practice, we didn't think we would be this close to the pace.

"That element of today's performance has been very satisfactory; and the Renaults have shown a good turn of speed, too. On the flip side, yesterday McLaren-Mercedes was very competitive and we share their sense of disappointment that the things did not turn out that way during the qualifying session."

McLaren drivers David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen were unable to shine during today's session, with the Scot finishing down in tenth position right ahead of his Finn teammate. They were nearly two seconds off the pace set by Brazilian Rubens Barrichello.
