Michelin Have the Edge, Says Fisichella

Italian driver Giancarlo Fisichella has claimed that French tyre manufacturer Michelin have the edge over their Bridgestone rivals following Friday's practice for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Italian driver Giancarlo Fisichella has claimed that French tyre manufacturer Michelin have the edge over their Bridgestone rivals following Friday's practice for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Jordan driver Fisichella shone in the first session, posting the third quickest time with his Honda-powered Jordan, but slid down the order in the afternoon after he decided to use new Bridgestone tyres.

The Italian claimed his car's handling got worse with the new rubber, as his final ninth quickest time proved.

"It has been a good day, particularly the first session when we did a good job with the set-up and I was very competitive," said Fisichella. "When we changed to new tyres it was completely different, with massive understeer, so tomorrow we will need to start again.

"Michelin looks better straight away on new tyres, so we have a lot of work to do for qualifying."

Fisichella's teammate Takuma Sato, racing for the first time at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit this weekend, posted the 19th quickest time in the second Jordan. David Coulthard with the McLaren and Juan Pablo Montoya with the Williams finished on top, both drivers using Michelin tyres.
