McNish Satisfied with First Test

Scot Allan McNish was satisfied with his first day of work at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain, where the new Toyota Formula One team kicked off their preparation work for the 2002 season, the Japanese outfit's debut year in Grand Prix Racing.

It was the first time that Toyota, who throughout 2001 carried out an intensive testing programme with their first car, tested on the same circuit as their rivals. However, the rain that fell during most of yesterday's session hampered the team's progress. McNish, however, was happy with the TF102's handling.

"Considering the weather conditions today, the car felt very good and smooth to drive," said McNish, who suffered an electrical problem during the session. "I am looking forward to testing it in the dry when we can really get to work. Our main aim this week is basically to get to know the car and to work from there."

McNish, who completed a total of 38 laps on Tuesday, set the fifth fastest time of the session more than five seconds off David Coulthard's time. The Toyota team will continue testing on Wednesday.
