McLaren Still Fastest at Barcelona - Day Two

McLaren driver David Coulthard set the fastest time on the second day of testing at the Barcelona circuit, where the Woking-based outfit dominated again.

The Scot driver, who had finished second on Tuesday, outpaced his Finn teammate Kimi Raikkonen, fastest in the first session, and the team's Austrian test driver Alexander Wurz, who was third quickest and the busiest of the three with a total of 120 laps.

Brazilian Cristiano da Matta was fourth quickest with the only Toyota TF103 in action at the Barcelona circuit, the Japanese squad continuing with their preparations for the final two races of the season in the United States and Japan.

"Today has been my last day of testing this week, and we completed a massive amount of work during the session," said da Mata. "We did some long runs working on Michelin tyre tests for the next races, but we also validated a new specification engine that we will use at the Japanese Grand Prix.

"Overall, it was a very successful day. Now I fly back to Brazil for a couple of days before going to Indianapolis next week for the US Grand Prix, which will actually be my first ever race at the speedway, so I'm looking forward to that."

The Renault team completed their final day of testing outside Grand Prix weekends today, with Frenchman Franck Montagny continuing with his tyre and chassis development programmes. The test driver covered a mammoth 122 laps to finish over a second behind Raikkonen.

"An effective second day for Franck," said Renault's Technical Director Mike Gascoyne. "He spent most of the day testing tyres for Suzuka, then moved on to some chassis work. His lap-times were very consistent, and improved throughout the day. Overall, it was a day where he continued to confirm his potential, and a fitting end to a very effective year's testing."

Testing will return to the Spanish track during the winter break.
