McLaren congratulates Fisi and Jordan

Team McLaren Mercedes has congratulated Giancarlo Fisichella and the Jordan Grand Prix team on its victory in last weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix, which was confirmed by the sport's governing body, the FIA, today (Friday)

The evidence presented in Paris showed that Fisichella had started his 56th lap before the race was stopped, and as a result the race classification would be that at the end of the 54th lap, when Fisichella was leading. This overturned to original decision that the race results should be taken from lap 53, when Raikkonen was ahead.

"The evidence presented earlier today leaves no doubt that Giancarlo and Jordan are the winners of the Brazilian Grand Prix and I'm pleased that any confusion has now been cleared up," said Ron Dennis, McLaren's chairman and CEO. "It's obviously a shame that neither driver nor team were able to celebrate in Brazil, but knowing Eddie I would imagine that a few pints of the Irish brew will be raised today."

Raikkonen, who was denied his second consecutive GP victory by the ruling, said: "I would like to congratulate Giancarlo and Jordan Grand Prix on their victory. As I only claimed my maiden win in the Malaysia Grand Prix a few weeks ago, I probably remember better than anyone how special it is and I know that Giancarlo will be very happy. I'm sure that there will be more wins for Team McLaren Mercedes and myself in the future so I'm not too disappointed."

The revised result means McLaren still leads the constructors' world championship with 39 points, while Raikkonen and team-mate David Coulthard are one-two in the drivers' race with 24 and 15 points respectively.
