Jos cuts off Jordan talks

Jos Verstappen has broken off negotiations for a Formula 1 drive with Jordan in 2004. According to the Dutchman's personal website, the talks were ended this morning after a mutually satisfactory contract could not be agreed.

The website states that the terms of the contract offered by Jordan did not inspire confidence of a successful co-operation for the full season.

"We all did our very best to reach an agreement," said Verstappen. "However, it makes no sense to carry on with the negotiations. We cut the talks with the full support of my sponsors."

Michel Perridon, from Verstappen's sponsor Trust, said: "Both parties need to have a good foundation for a successful season, and that wasn't the case here." Perridon claimed last week that a verbal deal was already agreed with Jordan.

The news means that its almost certain Verstappen won't be seen in F1 this year. Jordan is the only team with race seats available, and Verstappen is overqualified to be a Friday test driver. He's been racing in F1 for ten years: Friday test drivers may not have started in more than six Grands Prix.
